Located in Calgary’s Lower Mount Royal, The Thirty transforms a narrow, sloped inner-city site into a compact yet socially rich residential hub. The six-storey development features thirty 500 ft² micro-units elevated above a transparent, light-filled base that engages the street. Clad in metal panels, the stacked dwelling pods appear to float, while the glazed ground level anchors the structure and promotes “eyes on the street,” enhancing safety and connection with the community.

Designed for young professionals and first-time buyers drawn to nearby 17th Avenue’s urban vibrancy, the project rejects typical market-driven multi-residential formulas. Instead, it focuses on fostering community through shared experiences—30% of the building is dedicated to amenities, with 80% of those shared among residents.

The micro-units maximize efficiency, integrating full kitchens, laundry, built-in storage, and transformable living zones. Lower levels house practical amenities such as dedicate delivery lockers, bike storage, and workshops. A co-working space on the second floor supports flexible urban living, while the rooftop offers gardens and gathering areas.

By prioritizing connection, adaptability, and compact living, The Thirty exemplifies a contemporary urban lifestyle for a new generation seeking balance between independence and community.
